How has your week been?
In the course of a few days, we’ve seen a shooting massacre, killing 49 people, and a gator attack on a 2-year-old. These are the headliners, yet this does not cover the countless tragedies happening around the world every single day.
This world is a broken place. You do not need to be a Christian to see that. It makes all of us long for a better world. Deep down inside the human soul, we know that things aren’t the way they should be.
I don’t know about you, but it makes me cry out, “Come, Lord Jesus. Come.â€
For those of us who are in Christ, we have the hope that one day Jesus will come back. He will make all things new. He will restore everything that is broken in this world.
But how about now? How does Christ minister to us now?
It’s what we talked about this past Sunday- victory through faith in Jesus Christ.
We will face brokenness, but we know that in Christ, we will be restored. We will face adversity, but we know that in Christ, the Lord will work out all things for the good of His people. We will face temptation, but we know that in Christ, sin has lost its power. We will face Satan’s lies of our condemnation, but we know that in Christ, we are declared righteous. We will face the horrors of death, but we know that in Christ, we have eternal life. We will face the hardships of opposition, but we know that in Christ, if God is for us, who can be against us?
“And this is the victory that has overcome the world- our faith.†-1 John 5:4b
See, Christ pronounced His victory over the world the night before He was humiliated and murdered on the cross. And even though He seemed defeated through His death, it was by that death that He was victorious. And we are victorious in Him.
This is the foundation of our hope: When there is brokenness in our lives, we can cling to Christ. When there is brokenness in others, we can love them in Christ. When there is brokenness in this world, we can mourn with and pray for them in the name of Christ. May we share this message of Christ through our words and deeds so this broken world may see the light of hope.
Pray for those who are mourning and hurting. Pray for one another. Pray for yourselves.
