Hi all,

How are things?  We’ll be returning back to our regular schedule with EM Bible Study on Wednesday at 7pm and College Bible Study at 6pm.  Hope you guys can make it.  Here’s today’s devotion:

Tues, Jan 17th – Genesis 19

Growing up in the church, you rarely hear about the evil actions of God’s people.  Apart from David and Bathsheba, you would rarely hear about the sinful actions of God’s people especially on an extreme level.  But there is a defined purpose in having these stories in Scripture b/c it displays the sinfulness of man, that the line to Christ was by no means perfect and that there indeed was a need for a Savior.  If you remember back to the previous chapter, God told Abraham that he would destroy Sodom b/c of its wickedness.  Now you might be wondering how wicked could a place really be?  Well we see the picture in chapter 19 as angels would enter Lot’s house.  As men of the city would see these new men, they would congregate on the house so that they could engage in sex with them.  Really?  It reminds me of a scene from some horror movie only this was real.

Finally the angels would grab Lot’s family and pull them out right befor the city was to be destroyed.  They ordered the family to not look back but Lot’s wife did and immediately became a pillar of salt.  Why did she look back?  More than likely, that look back was a look back at everthing that she had in the city and she suffered the consequences.  This reminds us of the Christian life.  It is easy to back to the days before we knew the Lord with fondness.  Some even venture back into that life.  But the Word reminds us that there are dire consequences.  We might not die right away like Lot’s wife but eventually it will kill us.

Take care everyone and hope to see you guys soon.

SDG,
P. Ben
