Hey everyone,

How are things?  FYI, we’ll be having our next Oikos Meeting this Saturday at 5pm at Peter & Hanna’s place.  Make sure to contact them or D. Tommy to RSVP.  Here’s today’s devotion:

Wed, Jan 11th – Genesis 13-14

Most of us have heard the statement, “Live by faith and not by sight”.  Even though most of us have heard this, it is so easy to not live in this manner.  We tend to be the type to simply live and make judgments based on what is in front of us rather than trusting the Lord and His sovereignty.  We see this in our chapters today with Abram and Lot.  If we remember back, Abram had taken that tremendous step of faith by leaving his homeland and going into the future Promised Land.  He didn’t know the Lord before but he trusted Him.

Now going to chapter 13, Abram and Lot’s clans had grown to a point of conflict.  Now it would have been in Abram’s right to choose which parcel of land that he wanted but he defered to Lot.  Lot would see the bountiful land next to Sodom and would ignore the dangers of the city.  Later in chapter 14, we see how he would be captured by neighboring kings and would almost lose his life.

We must remember that in any and every situation the Lord is in control and when we are tempted to trust our abilities or the circumstances themselves, we need to turn to Christ in all ways not just when it is easy but when it is difficult as well.

Looking forward to seeing you all this weekend.

Blessings,
P. Ben
