Hey guys,

Hope everything is well.  Remember that tomorrow is the deadline to fill out our EM Survey online.  Make sure to fill it out.  We need your help.  Also our family is coming back into town on Saturday and we were wondering if anyone is available to pick us up from DIA.  I know that we have Oikos that night but if anyone is not going and is available around 7pm this Saturday.  We can use your help.  If you could email me or call me on my cell at 858-775-6146.  Here’s today’s devotion:

Tues, Jan 10th – Genesis 12

We know that there are those who are glorified beyond a level that they’re comfortable with.  I’m pretty sure that Tim Tebow is a little uncomfortable with all the praise and notoriety that he is receiving.  (Although he sees it as an awesome opportunity to promote his faith in Christ).  One of those characters in the Bible is Abraham.  Now there are many aspects to his life which are to be admired.  Some of which we see here in Genesis 12.  There are certain Jews who actually believed that Abraham was totally righteous and without sin.  However as we will also see in this chapter, Abraham was not perfect by any means.

Our chapter in Genesis goes into the call of Abraham.  When you think about, how amazing was it for him to leave his successful life in his homeland and leave to a place where he had never been and to follow a God that he had never met.  Most of us would never take that step but its pretty clear that he was led by the Spirit to take this tremendous step of faith.

Later however we see his lack of faith.  He knew that his wife was attractive and he was afraid that he would be killed and that Sarai would be taken.  Pharoah would do so w/o killing Abraham and then the Lord would strike the king’s house with boils.  Abraham failed to have enough faith to trust that God would protect him and his family and yet the Lord would still use him and use it as a foreshadowing of Moses and Christ.

Take care guys and God bless!

P. Ben
