Hey everyone,
How are things? A reminder that we’ll be having our first Connection Service (Sat. morning prayer) this Saturday at 6am. Hope you guys can attend. Here’s the devotion for today:
Friday, January 6th – Genesis 8 and 9
Has there ever been that moment in your life where there was someone that you really cared about that you fell into the belief that they didn’t care about you anymore? Today in our chapters, we see the story of Noah and his family. B/c most of us know the story, it’s easy to forget how difficult it must have been for them. To be locked up in this ark for almost a year w/o seeing outside of this boat full of animals must have been disheartening. They must have wondered whether God had forgotten about them. But we see that God remembered them. It’s such a simple verse but one that speaks volumes. God NEVER forgets His children. There will be those moments in time where people forsake us but the Lord is and will always be true to us. When we think about what we deserve, how amazing it is that God is the One that nevers lets us go.
God would be faithful to cause the waters to recede, have them return to dry land and give them the covenantal sign of the rainbow. God would show His love to Noah’s family in these amazing ways. One thing that we should ask ourselves today is how does the Lord show His love to us and do we truly appreciate that love?
Later on, we are reminded that Noah’s family was not perfect. Ham would walk into the tent as his father was drunk and naked. Instead of covering him, he would tell his brothers and try to embarass his own father. Now this passage isn’t given to give justification to racism. (Many have mistakenly taught that Ham was the first descendant of Africans). This story is included in the Word to chronicle the reality of sin even after the judgment on the world.
Have a blessed weekend guys. We definitely miss all of you!
Blessings,
P. Ben
