Hey everyone,

How are things? It’s great finally being back in Denver although I must admit that I’m really missing Cambodia right now. A few important things. First, we will NOT be having EM Bible Study this Thursday. We will resume on Thur, Aug 26th. Also, this Sunday will be the last day to donate school supplies. If you haven’t donated anything yet, I’d really encourage you guys to do so. A lot of different stores are still offering great specials. Here’s today’s devotion:

Wed, August 18th – Jeremiah 23-25

What makes a good pastor? Some may say it’s someone who is engaging and dynamic. Others would say that it’s someone who really cares about people. All those characteristics are important but there is nothing more important than to have a man of God who preaches and teaches the Word faithfully.

Jeremiah would respond to the prophets during that time who would just tell people what they wanted to hear. It is easy for these men to give the people a message that they enjoyed without biblical truth. This would erode the spiritual foundation of God’s people and lead them farther and farther away from the Lord. Whenever I speak with others in regards to finding a good church, I always start with having people find a pastor who will be true to the Word. I remember speaking to one of my old students who was looking for a church in the LA area. He found a church that he really liked but the pastor taught that you could lose your salvation. I told him to leave that church asap. We think that we can filter out the unbiblical stuff but if all you’re doing is sifting, then you really not getting what you need to grow in Christ.

Lastly, having a pastors and teachers that are biblical sound doesn’t really mean anything unless it leads to change in our own individual walk with the Lord. If heretical teaching and sound teaching have the same exact impact in your spiritual walk, then we need to seriously examine the nature of our relationship with Christ.

Take care everyone and God bless!

P. Ben
