Devotion for Feb 5th and Prayer Meetings

Hey everyone,

How’s it going? Hope all is well. Just wanted remind you guys that we have our monthly Joint Morning Prayer Meeting @ 6am and EM Prayer Meeting @ 7am. I really hope that you guys can make it. Here’s today’s devotion:

Fri, Feb 5th – Leviticus 14-15

There are those who will read thru the OT and find certain portions difficult or boring. What does temple measurements and priestly garments have anything to do with me. We must remember that in order to understand the significance of the NT we have to go back to the OT. As we read thru our chapters today, the first part deals with the issue of skin infections and mildew (exciting stuff huh?). Now when the Bible would refer to leprosy, it could refer to the actual disease or a variation so in all actuality leprosy could refer to any skin disease. Regardless of whether it was leprosy or not, the steps for cleansing and restoration were the same. So you may ask why is this important. We point forward to the gospels and the story of the ten lepers. Most of us wouldn’t have a clue as to their predicament unless we had these chapters in Leviticus. These lepers were outcasts. They couldn’t worship or be with their families if they had any. These men
had a miserable existence. They would cry out to Jesus and He would tell them to go to the temple. You can only understand the desperation of these men by reading these chapters.

Later in Leviticus 15, it speaks of uncleanliness by bodily discharge. This chapter might be a little gross for some of us and others may wonder why this is even in the Bible. Going forward once again, we remember the story of the woman who was bleeding for 12 years. More than likely, it was a menstrual flow thus meaning that she was unclean and an outcast as well. She was desperate and went to Jesus where she would touch His cloak and be instantly healed. The OT gives us the background we need to understand the incredible power and miraculous works of Christ. Without it, we could not understand in depth the work that He has done.

Have a great weekend everyone and I hope to see you guys this weekend.

Blessings,
P. Ben
